Denim, its that one item that just about everyone has in their closet. It has changed and evolved in style throughout the years but remains a constant part of everyones day to day wardrobe. Whether you bought it ten years ago or ten minutes ago it’s probably still in style. It could be a pair of jeans, a jacket, a skirt, a dress, basically anything and it can be turned in to a casual, yet chic piece for you wardrobe.
If you hadn’t already noticed, its pretty clear that I like denim. There are so many different denim trends this fall and I couldn’t be more excited about them. Denim fits in perfectly with my casual, sporty sense of style and I have so much fun pairing my favourite pieces in new ways. Most recently I invested in an oversized denim jacket, hello 90’s. As a 90’s baby I think its only right that I embrace a little bit of the classic, grunge aesthetic while also combining it with another one of my loves… Canada. Yep, you guessed it, the Canadian tuxedo. No matter where you look people are rocking jean on jean, I know it can be a little intimidating at first but trust me, give it a try, you won’t ever look back.
For this outfit I wanted to keep things pretty simple, the denim on denim is a statement enough as it is so I like to pair it with a simple t-shirt and some booties.
Now if you thought a Canadian Tuxedo was stepping outside your comfort zone just wait until you see these next jeans. Most of us have been wearing blue jeans since before we could even walk, isn’t it about time we mixed it up? Printed denim is a great way to edge up your average jeans while still getting that classic silhouette. I love to pair these camo print jeans with a leather jacket and some slides to create a super trendy, edgy look. However, if this is a little too out there for your personal style you can also pair them with a plain t-shirt and some sneakers. Its a great way to embrace the trend while still staying in your comfort zone.
Lastly, the denim skirt, its something I never thought I would catch myself wearing again. Just the words themselves bring up memories of sequin embroidered denim mini skirts from my pre-teen years, let’s just say it’s enough to make anyone cringe. However, of course, the fashion world has proved me wrong. Denim skirts in fact can be very cute and very versatile. You can pair them with a t-shirt and sneakers for the perfect back to school outfit or you can pair them with something a little more feminine to make them night out appropriate.
One of my fashion goals is to start incorporating more feminine pieces into my wardrobe and I love the juxtaposition between this blousy, pink tank top and the distressed denim skirt.
I know its hard to believe that its almost time to put away our denim cut offs and trade them in for jackets and jeans. But its that time of year whether we like it or not so I say embrace the change in season, buy a new pair of jeans (retail therapy always works,) and show us your #hunnistyle !
